World Milk Day 2025 Celebrations Set to Kick Off

Every year on June 1, the world comes together to celebrate World Milk Day. This is always a great opportunity to reminisce on the role of dairy in nutrition, food security, and sustainable agriculture.

Since its launch in 2001 by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, this event has grown significantly. In 2023, it reached over 1.35 billion people in 111 countries across the globe.

In 2024, the dairy sector came together in a big way for WMD, with contributions from more than 100 countries from Australia to Zimbabwe. The campaign tallied a record 2.7 million social media engagements and more than 924 million impressions. Here is the full report of the WMD results.

The dairy sector showcased its dedication to delivering nutritious and sustainably-made dairy products to their communities through farmer videos, in-person events, farm tours, virtual campaigns, and new partnerships.

This year’s theme will focus on showcasing dairy’s impact under the theme: “Let’s Celebrate the Power of Dairy.”

Global Dairy Platform (GDP) has launched a new World Milk Day (WMD) website that provides more information and materials to help dairy companies, associations and others plan and execute their campaigns.

The global dairy sector has long contributed to nutrition, environmental sustainability, and socio-economic growth, continuously innovating to support a healthier, more sustainable world. World Milk Day further promotes these efforts by encouraging year-round awareness of dairy farming, production, and products.

You can take part in World Milk Day through any of these four campaign strategies:

  • Social Media – Use digital platforms to spread awareness about the benefits of dairy. Share engaging posts, visuals, and story updates showcasing dairy’s role in health, nutrition, and sustainable agriculture. Also, remember to use the campaign hashtags (#WorldMilkDay and #EnjoyDairy) to maximize reach and engagement.
  • Live Events – Bring communities together by organizing on-the-ground activities such as dairy farm tours, educational workshops, tasting sessions, or community gatherings.
  • Partnerships – Collaborate with influencers, industry leaders, farmers, and organizations to amplify your campaign’s impact.
  • Paid Advertising – Increase the visibility of your campaign by investing in targeted advertising. This could be through social media ads or sponsored content.

We ask all participants to register via this link to get access to the website’s media materials. Then, after your event, please share your success through this form on the website, so we can include you in the 2025 report and possibly feature you on the WMD website!
