The transformative Impact of the Women SME Accelerator Program

International Women’s Day is a global celebration of the achievements and contributions of women across various spheres. This year’s theme, ‘Inspire Inclusion,’ resonates deeply with the ethos of the Women SME Accelerator Program, a beacon of empowerment and opportunity.

In October 2022, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the  International Agri-Food Network (IAFN) launched the Accelerator Mentorship Programme, a groundbreaking initiative designed to support women entrepreneurs facing challenges in the agrifood sector. This programme benefits 50 women entrepreneurs, pairing them with 50 global women leaders as mentors, providing tailor-made workshops, and offering capacity development through the FAO eLearning Academy. The impact extends beyond mentoring, as participants receive certifications with far-reaching benefits for their businesses.

By providing these women from 28 different countries with the tools, resources, and support they need, the program creates a platform for them to prosper and succeed in their businesses. When women are included, businesses flourish, communities thrive, and the world moves closer to achieving true equality.

As we celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day, let us collectively commit to inspiring inclusion. Organizations, groups, and individuals can play a pivotal role by supporting initiatives like the SME Accelerator Program. Through actions such as recruiting diverse talent, promoting women in leadership roles, and ensuring equitable treatment, we contribute to a more inclusive world.
