2024 Year in Review
As 2024 draws to a close, we take a moment to reflect on an incredible…
Youth are truly the future of food. That’s why we are continually working to include youth in global discussions about the food system and encourage young people to look at agriculture and food as a long-term career.
Certainly I have learned, youth must take a central and leading role in shaping fair and equitable food systems around the world. Often they are the ones who see past old lines drawn in the agriculture sector to bright new ways to do things. So we are helping give young people a platform to share innovative solutions and highlights ways we can better engage youth in the food system.
Throughout May, the Private Sector Mechanism (PSM) will be holding a series of collaborative events on Promoting Youth Engagement and Employment in Agriculture and Food Systems ahead of Committee on World Food Security CFS50 in October 2022. The Youth Forums will amplify youth voices, facilitate partnerships and linkages, and share knowledge, expertise, and technology to transform global food systems. We hope the input collected will help shaped Draft One of the CFS Policy Recommendations on Promoting Youth Engagement and Employment in Agriculture and Food Systems and support the youth workstream work ahead of the 2022 CFS deliberations.
The size of today’s youth population makes it imperative for policymakers to appreciate and address the challenges that confront young people. Youth also face serious barriers in accessing land, credit, and other productive assets for establishing their livelihoods.
Let’s get serious about what it will take to give young people a decent income in the sector. The 2021 Committee on World Food Security (CFS)’s High-Level Panel of Experts (HLPE) on food security and nutrition report on Promoting youth engagement and employment in agriculture and food systems underscores the urgent need to make agri-food systems more appealing to young people to secure the future of global food security and nutrition.
Register and join the Private Sector Mechanism (PSM) 2022 Youth Forums starting May 11 and running through May 26, 2022. Share your stories and experiences, including best practices, lessons learned, challenges, and opportunities to help youth find their future in the food system.
