2024 Year in Review
As 2024 draws to a close, we take a moment to reflect on an incredible…
Each year, Avena Canadiense, on behalf of the Prairie Oat Growers Association, hosts an online oat-based recipe contest for consumers based in Mexico. Followers of the Avena Canadiense Facebook page are asked to submit their recipes to the website for a chance to win cash prizes, have their recipes featured on the website, and their recipe published in the annual recipe book.
With COVID-19 requiring us to stay home, cooking new and exciting healthy recipes has never been more topical! It is very easy to participate and does not require expert cooking skill-levels. All you are required to do is create a unique recipe using oats, take a photo of it, and submit it to the website!
If you are looking for inspiration, visit the Avena Canadiense recipe section where you will find many ideas to use oats in drinks, breakfasts, desserts, and main dishes.
The form to submit your recipe will be active on May 1, 2020 and the deadline to send the recipe will be May 31, 2020. The winners will be chosen by a jury that will rate the recipes for their originality, presentation and nutritional value.
This year, there will be more prizes than ever before with 12 winners within 4 categories!
Category 1: Inspired by Mexican cuisine – Give a twist to a traditional Mexican recipe using oats!
Category 2: Vegetarian – Create a delicious vegetarian oatmeal recipe that will have everyone asking for a second serving (even carnivores)!
Category 3: Gluten Free – One of the added benefits of oatmeal is its ability to be gluten free. Create a recipe to satisfy the cravings of our celiac friends!
Category 4: Creative – Oatmeal is a versatile cereal that can be used as a crispy topping, in a drink, as flour, drink, and more. Create an oatmeal recipe in a unique way!
If you want to promote the recipe contest through your own networks, we encourage you to use the hashtag #AvenaCanadiense.
The contest starts on May 1st! Follow Avena Canadiense on Facebook for regular updates.
