Celebrating World Soil Day: CA4SH Hosts Special Dinner

December 5 is World Soil Day! A big day to celebrate the unsung hero beneath our feet—soil. As the foundation of life on Earth, soil plays a crucial role in supporting plant growth, regulating water flow, and storing carbon. This day serves as a reminder of the importance of sustainable soil management to ensure food security, biodiversity conservation, and climate change mitigation.

In anticipation of this great day, and against the backdrop of UNFCCC COP28, the Coalition of Action 4 Soil Health (CA4SH) is set to host a special dinner on December 5 in Dubai. This unique event seeks to shine a spotlight on the indispensable role that soils play in carbon sequestration and climate management. With the global demand for land escalating due to climate change and a burgeoning population, the dinner emphasizes the urgent need to overhaul existing land management practices.

Central to the gathering is the groundbreaking idea of viewing soils as valuable assets, prompting a transformative shift in our collective approach to soil sustainability. Bringing together leaders from the private sector, UN organizations, farmers, NGOs, and civil society, the dinner serves as a dynamic forum to explore innovative solutions for integrated soil, plant, and land fertility management. This dinner is not just a feast for the senses but a call to action, urging stakeholders to recognize soils as critical components of global climate policy and planetary health.

Let’s dig deep into understanding and appreciating the intricate web of life that thrives beneath the surface and commit to practices that preserve and enhance the health of our precious soils for generations to come. Cheers to the ground beneath us!
