At Emerging, Irina is working as Partnership and Events Coordinator. Her background is in community-led conservation and public policy. She has great interest in public-private partnerships ensuring win-win sustainable development approaches.
Prior to joining Emerging, Irina was the Programs Administrator at The Wildlife Foundation in Kenya where she coordinated the implementation of Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) programs, working with pastoral communities and wildlife managers to ensure a balanced approach to ecosystems management. She successfully spearheaded the implementation of community-led initiatives including the establishment of a research and education centre and a community wildlife conservancy. Irina has also worked for the Friends of Nairobi National Park, a membership organization, where she provided administrative and communication support in recruiting new members, organizing advocacy campaigns, and planning members’ activities. Irina is a leader and volunteer with Rotary International since 2009 and as a member of Rotary Club of Nairobi, she has provided strong communication and administrative support to organizing committees and secretariats of various regional and international events including District Conferences, the Rotary Leadership Institute and Rotary Day at the UN. Irina is a talented and ardent writer, a gift she uses to help organizations effectively communicate with the public, governments, and other organizations.
A Kenyan national, Irina has lived, worked, and studied in Canada, Tanzania and Kenya and has travelled and participated in community development projects in Uganda, Burundi, and Kenya. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science from Kenyatta University in Kenya; Certificates in Policy Advocacy and Research Skills, and NGO Management from MS Training Centre for Development Cooperation in Arusha, Tanzania, and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Professional Development Certificate from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
