{"id":911,"date":"2020-07-22T19:43:10","date_gmt":"2020-07-22T19:43:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/emergingag.com\/?p=911"},"modified":"2020-07-22T19:43:10","modified_gmt":"2020-07-22T19:43:10","slug":"food-systems-and-nutrition-patterns-biodiversity-resilience-and-food-security","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emergingag.com\/fr\/food-systems-and-nutrition-patterns-biodiversity-resilience-and-food-security\/","title":{"rendered":"Food Systems and Nutrition Patterns: Biodiversity, Resilience and Food Security"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On July 8th Emerging ag Inc, in partnership with the <a href=\"https:\/\/unitar.org\/\">United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nust.edu.pk\/Pages\/Default.aspx\">National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST)<\/a> hosted a Zoom webinar entitled <em>Food Systems and Nutrition Patterns: Biodiversity, Resilience and Food Security.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-910\" style=\"float: left;\" src=\"https:\/\/emergingag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/b2ap3_large_UNITAR.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"316\" align=\"center\" data-style=\"clear\" srcset=\"https:\/\/emergingag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/b2ap3_large_UNITAR.jpg 380w, https:\/\/emergingag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/b2ap3_large_UNITAR-214x300.jpg 214w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>The session asked the questions around if agriculture and biodiversity can coexist and how food systems can best prepare for disasters. It provided a discussion on how natural disasters impact the environment and food systems. The session also explored how to increase food production for the growing global population while still being able to protect the environment and promoting biodiversity.<\/p>\n<p>The webinar, which was held in the auspices of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabledevelopment.un.org\/hlpf\/2020\">United Nations High Level Political Forum (HLPF)<\/a>, boasted an impressive panel of five experts who were able to speak on various aspects of the issue at hand. The panel included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Naeem Shahzad, Assistant Professor,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nust.edu.pk\/Pages\/Default.aspx\">National University of Sciences and Technology<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Howard Shapiro, Distinguished Fellow, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldagroforestry.org\/\">World Agroforestry Centre<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Roseline Remans, Senior Scientist, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bioversityinternational.org\/alliance\/\">Alliance of Bioversity International<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/ciat.cgiar.org\/about\/ciat-and-the-sdgs\/\">International Centre for Tropical Agriculture<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Jimmy Smith, Director General, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilri.org\/\">International Livestock Research Institute<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Rene Castro, Assistant Director in charge of Biodiversity, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fao.org\/home\/en\/\">Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The webinar was attended by over 200 people and had an additional audience watching through a live YouTube showing. It was an interactive session which began with a series of polls which the audience could take part in to further understand some of the context that would be talked about by the panel. Poll questions included the topics of biodiversity landscapes, sustainable foods and food waste.
