The article, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/section\/agriculture-food\/opinion\/lets-meat-in-the-middle-on-climate-change\/\">Lets \u2018meat\u2019 in the middle on climate change<\/a>\u201d, discusses how eliminating meat consumption all together could have devastating effects on developing nations and proposes a solution where countries meet in the middle with a tailored approach to tackling the challenges associated with livestock and combating climate change.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Currently, <strong>800 million<\/strong> people go hungry every year and <strong>2 billion <\/strong>suffer from micronutrient deficiencies. Introducing or increasing animal proteins in these people\u2019s diets can combat this. Additionally, a billion people earning less than US$2 a day around the world depend on livestock for their livelihoods. The sector represents 40% of the agricultural GDP of developing nations and as much as 60% in some poor countries. These are just a few of the staggering statistics on the importance of livestock covered in this fascinating article.
