Scientific Symposium on Pulse Health and Nutrition
The Sackler Institute for Nutrition Science and the Global Pulse Confederation, with the support of Pulse Canada, will host the first event for the International Year of Pulses in November 2015 at the New York Academy of Sciences, focusing on health, nutrition, and food innovation.
The 1-day event will bring together representatives from UN agencies, health related non-governmental organizations and research foundations. Leading experts will present existing evidence for the impact of pulse consumption on diet quality, overnutrition heath issues like obesity and non-communicable diseases (diabetes and cardiovascular disease) as well as undernutrition (vitamin and mineral deficiencies). Opportunities for programs, policies and new research focused on the potential for pulses and pulse-based foods to address the double burden of malnutrition will also be discussed.
