Joining the Emerging Ag Team

This month I started my new position at Emerging Ag as Vice-President Operations. It’s only been a few days but I can already feel the incredible strengths the company has developed through both Robynne Anderson’s leadership and the team she has gathered.

One of the main changes for me coming from a traditional office type of setting working in a building and commuting every day is the virtual office set up that Emerging Ag has established as one of its founding principles. The team members’ locations in almost all world time zones give clients the possibility to be serviced 24/7 with regional expertise at hand and increases the company’s turn around capacity and efficiency.

One of the other changes for me is the company’s size and the start-up spirit it carries. In my past positions, I have worked for several large organizations from the European Commission to the World Bank with at the time close to 10,000 staff members. Emerging Ag’s culture is more acquainted to that of an IT start-up rather than what one would imagine of a consultancy working in the agricultural sector. This interesting mix between what most would perceive as a very traditional sector, agriculture, with this innovative corporate culture and set up probably explains how Emerging attracted such a passionate, professional and fun team.

I expect the work with Emerging Ag to be fascinating with such a rich client base covering the entire food and agricultural value chain in many regions of the world. Emerging Ag is also the Secretariat of two large international processes. By providing the secretariat to the International Agri-Food Network (IAFN), it coordinates the agribusiness voice towards agrifood agencies of the United Nations (FAO, WFP, IFAD) through its permanent representation in Rome, Italy. Emerging Ag is also the Secretariat of the Global Pulse Confederation's (GPC) campaign to support the 2016 International Year of Pulses. GPC represents all actors involved in pulse production, trade, research, and consumption around the world.

I am looking forward to meeting all our clients and working closely with our network of team members, partners and suppliers.
